In The Crease

Don't be surprised if classy All-Star defenseman Al MacInnis of
the Blues doesn't play another game. The 40-year-old MacInnis,
who is out for the season after undergoing surgery to repair a
detached left retina, has been told by doctors that he risks
permanent vision loss if he's struck in the head again....
Speaking of eye injuries, two of the NHL's toughest enforcers,
Tie Domi of the Maple Leafs and Aaron Downey of the Stars, will
start wearing visors in practice with the intention of using them
during games in the near future. That would be a big blow to the
tiresome macho image that some players use as an excuse for not
wearing the protective shields.... Credit Lightning coach John
Tortorella for his creativity in assembling one of the NHL's top
checking lines. He has surrounded center Dave Andreychuk with
wings Tim Taylor, who is a natural pivot, and Ben Clymer, who is
a converted defenseman, to form a trio that consistently shuts
down opponents' top lines.
