Bobby Jones, Golfer
The Atlanta native and Augusta National cofounder is the only
player to complete a Grand Slam in a calendar year, winning the
1930 British Open, British Amateur, U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur.
After victories in 13 majors between 1923 and '30, he retired at
age 28.

Ty Cobb, Baseball player
The fiery outfielder from Royston was one of the five original
Baseball Hall of Fame inductees. In 24 seasons the Georgia Peach
won 12 AL batting titles, the 1909 Triple Crown and the '11 MVP
award. He holds the major league record for career batting
average (.367).

Herschel Walker, Football player
The 1982 Heisman Trophy winner set 11 NCAA, 16 SEC and 41 school
records in three years as a running back at Georgia. Raised in
Wrightsville, he was the Parade high school back of the year at
Johnson County High in '79. Walker played pro ball for 15
seasons.

Fran Tarkenton, Football player
The Hall of Fame quarterback was all-state in football,
basketball and baseball at Athens High. At Georgia he was an
All-America and an Academic All-America. When he retired in 1978
after 18 pro seasons, he held most of the major NFL career
passing records.

Wyomia Tyus, Sprinter
The Griffin native was the first person to win back-to-back
Olympic 100-meter gold medals, in Tokyo in 1964 and Mexico City
in '68. She also won two Olympic relay medals and twice set the
world record in the 100. She was a college star at Tennessee
State.

Evander Holyfield, Boxer
The longtime Atlantan and 1984 Olympic bronze medalist has a
38-7-2 record, with 25 KOs, in 20 years and is the only
heavyweight to win the title four times. His stunning 11th-round
knockout of Mike Tyson in 1996 was one of boxing's most
memorable bouts.
