Heard on the Range

Michelle Wie used a Nike Ignite driver during the U.S.'s 10-8
Curtis Cup win over Great Britain and Ireland at the Formby Golf
Club in Merseyside, England, fueling speculation that she might
join Tiger Woods in the Nike stable when she turns pro.... After
Annika Sorenstam triple-bogeyed the 61st hole of the LPGA
Championship, severely shrinking her five-stroke comfort zone,
she turned to her caddie and said, "It's going to be all right."
The caddie, Terry McNamara, shrugged his shoulders and replied,
"O.K., if you say so." ... On the Tuesday before the Buick, Davis
Love III received a new motorcycle--a 40th birthday present from
wife Robin--from Paul Teutel Sr. and Paul Jr., the builders and
stars of American Chopper. Jeff Sluman was DQ'd from the Buick
Classic last Saturday because his Titleist ball did not carry any
marking indicating its model, making it nonconforming.... While
getting in some postround work at the range on Friday afternoon,
Kenny Perry broke the face of his TaylorMade 510 driver. He used
a backup for the final two rounds and shot a 66 on Sunday, the
low round of the day.... After a missed putt at the 15th hole
last Friday, Jose Coceres of Argentina reacted poorly. Between
holes Coceres, 40, threw his putter about six feet and spit on a
nearby tree.... Third-round leader Loren Roberts struggled to a
78 on Sunday, the highest final-round score for a third-round
leader since Lee Janzen shot a 79 in the 1998 Players
Championship.... Amateur pilot Mark Simmons, 33, of Pawcatuck,
Conn., crash-landed his 1981 Skyhawk II single-engine Cessna on
the 4th hole of the Haworth Country Club in Haworth, N.J., last
Thursday morning. No one was hurt.
