Packerland

... where football and cheese go together like sports and dairy products

By Map Reporter: Adam Duerson

[ 1 ] LOMBARDI AVENUE Named for the Latin teacher--immortal Packers coach (seven NFL titles in 9 years) on Aug. 7, 1968, six months before he stepped down. [ 2 ] ALLOUEZ CATHOLIC CEMETERY Visit the modest grave of ex--meat packer Curly Lambeau, who founded the team, with pal George Calhoun, in 1919. [ 3 ] BRETT FAVRE'S STEAKHOUSE Milwaukee branch closed after three years of grisly reviews. Favre didn't go to that one much but does hang at this one. [ 4 ] CITY STADIUM In '34 a fan fell from stands and sued for $5,000, sending team into receivership. [ 5 ] CHILI JOHN'S John Madden picks up yum yum for himself and his Cruiser crew when he's in town. [ 6 ] NEVILLE MUSEUM See a Packers press kit from 1945! [ 7 ] KROLL'S WEST A 1997 SI cover showed Favre and coach Mike Holmgren noshing here; still a prime place to spot a hungry Packer. [ 8 ] ST. NORBERT'S COLLEGE Training camp dorm where Paul Hornung and Max McGee shared room 120 in the '50s and '60s and drove coaches batty with their antics; backfield coach Red Cochran once arrived for an 11 p.m. bed check, flipped on the light and found Hornung and McGee nude and holding each other. "Shut the door. We're busy now," Hornung deadpanned before the players let Cochran in on the joke. [ 9 ] BOTANICAL GARDEN Are you ready for some Renaissance Herb Faire (Sept. 18--19)? [ 10 ] BURGER KING Where 340-pound lineman Gilbert Brown created the Gilbert Burger, a Double Whopper with extra everything, no pickle. Available for 50 cents extra. --Map Reporter: Adam Duerson

What the Bears do on a trip to Green Bay

"There's a wine shop, Flanagan's Stop & Shop, down the street from the hotel [Radisson Paper Valley] that I like going to every year. Also, the steak dinners in the Lombardi Room at the hotel are incredible. That's our problem up there, they feed us too much." --Brad Maynard, punter

"This is the one trip where you bring a DVD player and actually use it. You can see all of Appleton in 10 minutes. It's a good stadium in Green Bay, but the fans are not cool to us. We get the worst of it because this is the oldest rivalry in the league."

--R.W. McQuarters, cornerback
