CHIEFS vs. RAVENS

Who'll win on Monday night? In a preview, Chiefs DE Jimmy Wilkerson and Ravens CB Gary Baxter played EA Sports Madden 2005 on Xbox Live.

This is an article from the Oct. 4, 2004 issue Original Layout

BAXTER, WHOSE RAVENS lost to K.C. 17-10 in the teams' most recent meeting a year ago, had the jitters while waiting in his Maryland hotel room for the game to begin. "If you're not nervous, you've got no fire, no passion," he said. Wilkerson, 23, wasn't troubled by nerves --"Not at all," he said--and it showed when he calmly picked off a Kyle Boller pass early in the first quarter, then exclaimed, "That's what I'm talking about!" The Chiefs, though, wouldn't create another highlight in the half. The 25-year-old Baxter, clad in a T-shirt and shorts, went right back to Boller, who threw three TD passes to help Baltimore take a 38-0 halftime lead. At that point Wilkerson's offense had exactly minus-five total yards. "Ray Lewis is just too fast," Wilkerson grumbled about Baltimore's star linebacker and the Madden 2005 cover boy.

Baltimore's other Lewis, Jamal, was pretty quick, too, making touchdown runs of 66 and 29 yards in the second half and ending up with 221 yards and four TDs. Even during garbage time Wilkerson couldn't score. "Good game, dog," Baxter offered when the rout was complete. But Wilkerson didn't bite. "Terrible game," he said. "It won't be like that for real." RAVENS 52 CHIEFS 0 (With Dallas's win over Washington, the team that prevails in SI Players' weekly Video Matchup has gone 1-1 on Monday nights.)
