Three and Out

October 10, 2004

1. It's a sham that the Big East will have a team in a BCS bowl. The top two contenders, West Virginia and Boston College, have lost to middle-of-the-pack ACC foes Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, respectively.

2. Purdue's defense could ultimately keep the Boilermakers from winning the Big Ten. A week after giving up 30 points to Illinois, they beat Notre Dame 41--16 but allowed the Irish to gain 536 yards.

3. Louisiana Tech running back Ryan Moats is deserving of Heisman consideration. Facing the same Fresno State defense that held Kansas State's Darren Sproles to 37 yards, Moats rushed for 236 yards and four touchdowns. --Stewart Mandel
