Three and Out

1. How bad is the Big 12 North? Nebraska, which lost to Texas Tech 70-10 on Oct. 9, converted just 1 of 15 third downs and completed four passes last Saturday against Missouri, yet it won 24-3 and is now in first place in the division (3-2, 5-3 overall).

2. The BCS may have to revamp its planned five-bowl format for 2006 and beyond. In bidding for the rights to the watered-down series for 2006, ABC reportedly offered 33% less per game than it's paying now. The BCS has begun seeking bids from other networks.

3. The gutsiest call of the season so far was made on Saturday by Baylor coach Guy Morriss, who went for two when trailing by one in overtime against Texas A&M. Quarterback Shawn Bell connected with Dominique Zeigler, and the Bears won 35-34, their first victory over a ranked team in six years. --Stewart Mandel
