Carli Dale
COCHRANTON, PA. > Volleyball
Dale, a senior setter at Juniata College, has been named 2004 American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Player of the Year. She led the Eagles to the national title, and her 13.4 career assists per game is the highest ever in the NCAA's Division III.

Nathan Irby
BALTIMORE > Football
Nathan, a senior running back at Dunbar High, ran for 185 yards, setting a state single-season rushing record (2,879 yards) as the Poets won the Class 1A title. He rushed for 408 yards and scored five touchdowns in the Baltimore City Division 1 championship game.

Missy Buttry
SHENANDOAH, IOWA > Cross-country
Buttry, a senior at Wartburg, took the Division III individual title, becoming the first runner in NCAA history, male or female, to win three consecutive cross-country championships. She won the USA Track & Field national club championship on Dec. 4.

James Thorpe
EAST LONGMEADOW, MASS. > Soccer
Thorpe, a freshman goalkeeper at Franklin Pierce, had an NCAA Division II--high 16 shutouts and led the Northeast-10 Conference with an 0.68 goals-against average this season. He was the conference freshman and co-goalkeeper of the year.

Kristin Neher
KANSAS CITY, MO. > Soccer
Neher, a senior forward at William Jewell, had 362 points in 82 games to become the alltime points leader in college soccer history. In her career with the Cardinals she scored 139 goals, had 84 assists and was a four-time NAIA All-America.

David Hall
SCARBOROUGH, MAINE > Pool
Hall, 33, a semiconductor operator, defeated 2000 champion David Rowell to win the American Poolplayers Association's U.S. Amateur Pool Championship. This was his first year in APA competition, and the victory came in his first tournament appearance.
