Jose Canseco

March 14, 2005

Canseco's revelations in Juiced, his best-selling tell-all, caught the attention of lawmakers at the county and federal levels. Canseco was among a group of former and current major leaguers invited to testify before a House Government Reform Committee looking into steroids in baseball, and he agreed to appear on March 17. Meanwhile, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Javier Souto has received e-mails from angry residents who want to rename a 10-block stretch of road near Coral Park High that is called Jose Canseco Street. (Canseco attended Coral Park but left before graduating.) "I'm not a fan of naming streets after people who are alive," said Souto. "This is an example of what could go wrong."
