Sing - Along

May 29, 2005

If Brian Curley's course design business fails, maybe the Scottsdale, Ariz., architect can go into songwriting. At last month's meeting of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, at Spanish Bay Golf Club in Pebble Beach, Calif., Curley (above) sang USGA, his homage to the U.S. Golf Association set to the Village People's 1978 hit YMCA. --Geoff Shackelford

Young man,

The Open's waiting for you.

Mr. Veteran,

You've already been through.

And know that

We will go far

We'll do any-thing- to-de-fend-par.

**

Thick rough,

You'd better be fit.

Because sand wedge Is all the club you can hit.

So chop it

Back in the fairway,

Because that's-the- way-you-must-play.

**

[Refrain]

It's fun to be in the U-S-G-A,

I love to set it up the USGA way.

With rough so thick and so tall

You lose your bag and your ball.

Watch the names on the leader board fall!

*

Green speeds

We'd like to see 'em 16.

And we don't care

If the color is green.

Irrigation?

You know we don't need none,

Because that-would- spo-il-our-fun.

*

Too fast?

Then we know what to do.

If you're lucky,

We'll syringe it for you.

If you're not so,

We'll all laugh out loud

As your ball-bounds- in-to-the-crowd.

**

[Refrain]

It's fun to be in the U-S-G-A,

We're going to set it up the USGA way.

Put the pin on a hill,

Make 'em squirm, Make 'em squeal.

I can do whatever I feel!

*

If we're all tied,

Tomorrow we'll play 18.

Never mind that

The TV ratings are lean.

It's tradition

And we must carry on

Even though-the- crowds-are-long-gone.

*

Clubmakers

Have got that ball goin' far.

To where, some say,

We left the lid off the jar.

We'll do studies

And say what's all the fuss?

Besides they've-got- more-law-yers-than-us.

**

[Refrain]

It's fun to be in the U-S-G-A,

We love to set 'em up the USGA way.

Love old courses the most

(Except those on the West Coast)

So don't think that You're going to host the

U-S-G-A,

U-S-G-A.
