CADDIE CAMEOS

July 24, 2005

As Brenden Martin (right) enjoys his run on the NBC reality show I Want to Be a Hilton--he's made it through four rounds--the 31-year-old Denverite and regular looper at Castle Pines Golf Club is threatening to become the world's best-known caddie. Here's the competition.

Name Player Claim Prospects
1  Mike (Fluff) Cowan Jim Furyk As Tiger's first bag man, he starred in commercials, made an instructional video and had his own website. The new mellow Fluff has traded TV face time for TV dinners and family life.
2  Steve Williams Tiger Woods Skulking around behind Woods, abusing fans and photographers and crashing his race car. Woods canned Cowan for getting too big, so don't expect to see Stevie on Celebrity Jeopardy anytime soon.
3  Bruce Edwards Tom Watson Gained a measure of fame during his courageous struggle with ALS. John Feinstein's book about him, Caddie for Life: The Bruce Edwards Story, came out in paperback in May.
4  Angelo Argea Jack Nicklaus His unmistakable silver Afro was a fixture alongside Nicklaus for 25 years; later opened a restaurant and wrote a book about his life with Jack. The 75-year-old Argea has cut his hair, ruining any chance he had of playing Moses in the remake of The Greatest Story Ever Told.
5  Herman Mitchell Lee Trevino He was a regular in commercials and at charity events with Trevino throughout his career. Trevino continued to pay Mitchell, a member of the Caddie Hall of Fame, until his death in 2004.
