Alana Clooten

FAIRBANKS, ALASKA > Track and Field

Clooten, a recent graduate of Lathrop High, went undefeated in the discus during her high school career, winning four Region VI and state discus titles. She was also undefeated in the shot put in her final three years. Her seven state titles in both events is an Alaska girls' throwing record.

Greg Hackney

GONZALES, LA. > Fishing

Hackney, 31, won the 2005 Wal-Mart Forrest L. Woods Tour Land O'Lakes Angler of the Year award in bass fishing, finishing first in points after six regular-season events. He had two top 10 finishes this year on the FLW Tour and had been named the BASS 2004 rookie of the year.

Cyd Okino

HONOLULU > Golf

Cyd, 11, a seventh-grader at Kaimuki Middle School, won the state women's match play championship at the Oahu Country Club, her first Hawaiian major title. In July she was the youngest player to qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship in Kansas City, Mo.

Theron James

MIDDLETOWN, CONN. > Figure Skating

Theron, a senior at Middletown High, won gold in the men's novice free-skate competition and silver in the short program at the 48th Annual Lake Placid Summer Figure Skating Championships. He also won silver in the free skate at the New England Summer Challenge in Marlborough, Mass.

Jamie Perkins

CONVOY, OHIO > Softball

Jamie, a senior righthander at Crestview High, struck out three consecutive batters with the bases loaded to beat Symmes Valley 6-4 and give the undefeated Lady Knights their first Ohio Division IV title. She went 23-0 for the season with an 0.50 ERA and a .588 batting average.

Bobby Young

PROVIDENCE > Track and Field

Young, a junior at Pennsylvania's Lincoln University, won the 400-meter dash at the NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships in 45.95, the season's best time. That win, and his second-place finish in the 200 meters, helped the Lions win their 16th national title in 20 years.
