Mercado, a graduate of West Covina High, won the 10,000 meters at the USAJunior Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 31:36.35, the fastest time inthe nation this year for high school boys. He also has the best time this yearin the 5,000 meters (14:37.74). He will attend Oregon this fall.

Bolivar, N.Y. > Softball

Jordan, a juniorlefthander at Bolivar-Richburg Central High, led the Wolverines to the stateClass C championship. She went 28--0 for the season, threw 360 strikeouts andallowed only one earned run (she had an .037 ERA). She also batted .533 withseven home runs, 53 RBIs and 56 hits and was Class C MVP.

Mango, a junior atthe U.S. Olympic Education Center at Northern Michigan University, won the121-pound Greco-Roman title at the World University Championships in UlanBator, Mongolia. He also won gold medals at the University NationalChampionships, FILA Junior National Championships and FILA Junior world teamtrials.

Schultz, agraduate of Holmen High, became the first athlete of either sex to win fourstraight Wisconsin Division I titles in the 200 and 400 meters. She had thefastest times in the nation this season in both events and was the Wisconsinfemale prep track and field athlete of the year. She will attend Notre Damethis fall.

Littleton, Colo. > Baseball

Anundsen, arighthanded pitcher who recently graduated from Columbine High, led the Rebelsto the Colorado Class 5A title. He had a 10--2 record, a 5A-best 150 strikeoutsand was the state's Gatorade baseball player of the year. The fourth-round pickof the Milwaukee Brewers, he signed with the team on June 14.

Mallory, 15, ahomeschooled high school sophomore, defeated Mallory Cecil 2--6, 6--1, 6--1 towin the United States Tennis Association's Girls' 18 National Clay CourtChampionships at the Racquet Club in Memphis. Last year she won the USTA Girls'16 National Clay Court Championship.
