Most pros andamateurs are searching for a perfect swing, but not many of the young talentson the LPGA tour. They have unorthodox swings and prove that guts andsmarts--not perfect mechanics--make stars. Granada has a short backswing and avery fast, aggressive move through impact. She succeeds because she lets it ripwithout steering the ball. That's how she casually split the 18th fairwaydespite the huge lake on the right side.
All clubs aredesigned to have the shaft ahead of the clubhead at address. Regardless ofswing style, every good player replicates that position at impact. (It'simpossible to hit anything but a flop shot with the shaft behind the ball atimpact.) To get a feel for the proper shaft position, use a mid-iron to hithalf shots while maintaining this relationship between the shaft and clubheaduntil after impact.

... AND ANOTHERTHING
"Now thatAnnika Sorenstam has been dethroned, it'll be interesting to see if she everreturns to the top of the LPGA."
Armed with verybig dreams and short drivers and filled with visions of Tiger Woods (right)swinging away on The Mike Douglas Show at age two, golf prodigies are sproutingup like weeds at a muni. Here are six who have already begun to make a name forthemselves. For the record, each claims that his favorite player is none otherthan Woods himself. Clearly, Michelle Wie has not yet penetrated theconsciousness of the toddler set.
