WHO'S Hot

Chargers

Even in the coldthey're sizzling. After the Bolts edged the Bills 24--21 in 30° Buffalo, SanDiego linebacker Carlos Polk sang, "The weather outside was frightful/Butthe game was just delightful." LaDainian Tomlinson ran through the snow for(yawn) 178 yards and two TDs, leading center Nick Hardwick to note, "He's abeast."

Carmelo

Ooh La La! TheNuggets' Carmelo Anthony averaged 33.6 points--including 38 last Saturday--tohelp Denver win seven of eight, and off the court there's joy, too: He and hisfiancée, La La Vàzquez, have a baby on the way, and his C1.5 Extreme EnergyDrink just hit stores.

Penguins

Happy Feet, happyskates. That cartoon penguin flick (Robin Williams called it "Riverdancemeets March of the Penguins") is No. 1 at the BO. In Pittsburgh puckstersSid Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are, respectively, Nos. 1 and 3 in EasternAll-Star voting.

James Andrews

Surgeon to the(sports) stars had a busy week with QBs, 'scoping one of Daunte Culpepper'sknees and rebuilding one of Donovan McNabb's. And now for an update on hisoff-season surgery on Drew Brees's throwing shoulder: Brees is the NFL's toppasser.

WHO'S Not

Broncos

The Jay Cutlerera began with a loss (and with Cutler heaving a costly interception) and withstar receiver Javon Walker whining (again) about not getting the ball.Defensive captain Al Wilson is out with a strained neck (that was scary onSunday night), Denver's lost three straight, and next up are the 10--2Chargers.

Olindo

Not pretty. Whilelots of NFL kickers are nailing game-winners (page 44), Miami's Olindo Mare(left) has missed an NFL-high 10 field goals this year and has hit just 64.3%of his attempts. Given Mare's reported $2.1 million cap figure for 2007, his10-year run as a Dolphin may end.

Hawks

NBA's nicked-upAtlanta had lost seven of 10 through Sunday. NHL's injury-crushed Chicago wasstill slogging under .500, and Packers' linebacker A.J. Hawk endured a day ofshredding in a 38--10 loss that dropped Green Bay to 4--8.

Herm Edwards

"Defensivelywe took a step back," said the coach after his Chiefs blew a 28--14 leadand lost to lousy Cleveland. An even worse misstep: Edwards's decision not toblitz the Browns' untested QB Derek Anderson.

SI PLAYERS NFL POLL

Who is the most annoying player in the NFL?

Terrell Owens, Cowboys WR 39%

Joey Porter, Steelers LB 10%

Warren Sapp, Raiders DT 6%

Chad Johnson, Bengals WR 6%

FAST FACTS Poll was conducted during the preseason....Patriots safety Rodney Harrison finished fifth (3.3%) while the Bengals'third-string quarterback, Doug Johnson, who has not started a game since 2003with the Falcons, was sixth (2.3%).... The only other QB to draw multiple voteswas Peyton Manning (1.7%).... Last week Owens, who co-wrote the recentlypublished children's book Little T Learns to Share, publicly questioned Cowboyscoach Bill Parcells' decision to cut kicker Mike Vanderjagt....
