THE QUESTIONS WITH Aaron Rowand

PHILLIES CF
July 29, 2007

What was your welcome-to-the-big-leagues moment?
My first at bat [in 2001]. I'm facing Dave Veres in St. Louis. Two outs. Top 9. Crowd on its feet. He throws me a pitch I think I'll kill until it drops off the table and jams me. My bat shatters, and I hit a looper to the mound. Game over. My teammates got the ball. They broke up toothpicks and glued them to the ball and wrote things on it like "Only 390 feet till my first big league homer."

Your most embarrassing moment?
Arizona Fall League, '99. I hit a grounder to short, and the bat got caught between my legs. I went down face-first, and got a mouthful of dirt.

If I were commissioner for a day, I'd ...
make every Monday an off day.

If I weren't playing baseball, I'd ...
have joined the Marines or the Army, something team-oriented.

LAST WEEK
