Brayan Martinez
WEST ORANGE, N.J. > Soccer
Martinez, a recent graduate of West Orange High, is Gatorade's national boys' player of the year. The midfielder scored 85 goals and had 90 assists in his career, including 21 goals and 21 assists during his senior season, in which he led the Mountaineers to a state title. He will attend Seton Hall in the fall.

SALISBURY, MD. > Lacrosse
Berkman, 47, who has coached at Salisbury for 19 years, led the Sea Gulls to their seventh Division III title and fourth in the last five years. He is the winningest coach in men's college lacrosse history (308--34), and this year's team set NCAA marks for wins (23), goals (417), assists (271) and points (688).

KEARNEY, MO. > Weightlifting
Michala, a senior at Kearney High, set a world record for high school juniors and seniors in the 198-pound class in the squat (297 pounds) and national records in the bench press (127) and deadlift (352), leading the Lady Bulldogs to the national title.

ALLEN PARK, MICH. > Softball
Katie, a senior righthanded pitcher at Cabrini High, allowed one run all season, a national record, and threw a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts to help the Monarchs win the state championship. She pitched 32 shutouts with 12 no-hitters and had an ERA of 0.04 this year.

TAUNTON, MASS. > Track and Field
Dias, a recent graduate of RPI, was named the Liberty League's outdoor track athlete of the year for the fourth time. At the league meet she won the 400-meter hurdles, was on the winning teams for the 4 √ó 100 and 4 √ó 400 relays, and took second in the 100 hurdles and the triple jump.

Ryan Patricio
TEMECULA, CALIF. > Speed Cubing
Ryan, 18, is the U.S. Rubik's Cube champ. The senior at Rancho Vista High averaged 14.92 seconds in solving the three-by-three-by-three cube three times at the U.S. Open. He holds the world record in one-handed cubing (average solve time: 24.03 seconds) and will compete at the world championships in Hungary.
