Mitchell, a junior righthanded pitcher at Clemson, led the Cape Cod League in strikeouts (58) and was fourth in ERA (1.47) while pitching 49 innings for the Western Division regular-season champion Bourne Braves. For the Tigers he was 5--0 with a 3.27 ERA and 49 strikeouts over 52 1/3 innings.

Bryant, a recent graduate of Clearwater High, made five of the nation's top 10 discus throws last season, including the second longest, at 205' 10". The Arizona recruit won the event in this year's Nike outdoor nationals with a throw of 201' 7".

Alissa, 15, is believed to have become the youngest U.S. female to win a full-sized sprint car race when she led all 25 laps at Petaluma Speedway. The junior at Ursuline High was the QRC All-Star Tour's driver of the year while racing outlaw karts last year.

Leah, a fourth-grader at Trinity Christian School, won medals in four field events at the AAU Junior Olympics in Knoxville, Tenn. She finished second in the high jump (4 feet), third in the long jump (13' 4 1/4"), fourth in the triathlon (shot put, high jump and 200 meters) and fifth in the shot put (22' 2").

Michael, 13, defeated his twin brother, Joseph (far left), 12--9 in the final of the USA Taekwondo Junior Olympic sparring championships in San Jose. Both boys are eighth-graders at Saint Philip and James Junior High.
