CLOSING RANKS

This is an article from the Nov. 5, 2007 issue

Want to know who finishes strongly as you plot out trade packages for a play-off push? Below are the top active performers at each position for Games 9 through 16 over the past three seasons (minimum of 12 games played). Granted, this data must be taken in context: Marc Bulger became the top QB yardswise with Orlando Pace protecting him, and Larry Johnson (left) had more All-Pros blocking for him then than now. But these numbers show who tends to stay strong as the season trudges on.

Market Watch

WHO'S UP

JESSE CHATMAN

Dolphins RB

In the first start of his four-year career, Ronnie Brown's fill-in slipped and slid his way across the soggy pitch at Wembley Stadium for 100 yards from scrimmage. He should start the rest of the year.

J.P. LOSMAN

Bills QB

Not only did he rescue his own lost season on Sunday in relief of Trent Edwards, but he boosted Lee Evans as well.

MARC BULGER

Rams QB

The Rams are still looking for their first win, but at least Bulger regained his touch, throwing for 310 yards against the Browns.

JUSTIN FARGAS

Raiders RB

overshadowed by LaMont Jordan, he's quietly been Oakland's most effective runner, with 5.7 yards per carry.

WHO'S DOWN

VINCE YOUNG

Titans QB

He's a winner and a leader on the field, but what good does that do fantasy owners? Here in a nutshell is the conundrum of this superstar: This year Young has more wins (four) than TD passes (three).

TATUM BELL

Lions RB

It's time to cut someone when he shows up on the inactive list without an injured body part mentioned next to his name.

BEARS DEFENSE

After forcing 12 turnovers over the first five games, the former Monsters of the Midway have just one takeaway in the last three.

ANDRE' DAVIS

Texans WR

Kevin Walter's emergence and the expected return of Andre Johnson means Davis's days as a starter are numbered.
