DeBoer, a junior at Grand Valley State who received a kidney transplant in2003, was the outstanding male athlete of the U.S. Transplant Games. A memberof Team Michigan, he won gold in three swimming races, silver in six eventsincluding basketball and cycling, and bronze in the 5K run.
