Fall Housecleaning

Bye weeks are done. Brush away backups for players with greater upside
November 17, 2008

MICHAEL JENKINS
Falcons, WR
Roddy White isn't the only receiver benefiting from rookie QB Matt Ryan's ascent to stardom. Over the last four games Jenkins (above) has scored two touchdowns and averaged nearly four catches for 61 receiving yards. He's playing well enough to be a starter in most fantasy leagues, but he's still available through free agency in a majority of them.

DUSTIN KELLER
Jets, TE
Owners have been waiting for the rookie to get more involved in New York's offense, and he did on Sunday against St. Louis, becoming the first Jets tight end with a 100-yard game since 2005. He's worth starting this week against the Patriots—and beyond.

BOBBY ENGRAM
Seahawks, WR
His highest catch total this season came in the one game in which he and Matt Hasselbeck played together. The QB is expected back soon, and that should rekindle some of the magic (94 catches, 1,147 yards, six TDs) the two shared last year.

HEATH MILLER
Steelers, TE
Miller (above) had seven touchdowns in 2007, but his production has been virtually nil this year, mostly because he's often been forced to stay in and help with pass protection. His season got even worse when he was sidelined by a bum ankle in Week 10. Eighteen tight ends have more catches, 20 have more yards and 21 have more TDs; Miller's many owners should find an alternative.

MATT SCHAUB
Texans, QB
He has a sprained MCL and will likely be sidelined until December, the cusp of the fantasy postseason. It takes a desperate owner to hold onto Schaub, imagining that this borderline fantasy starter might help a team into, and then through, the playoffs.

KEVIN FAULK
Patriots, RB
In recent years the only constant in the kaleidoscopic Pats backfield has been Faulk as the third-down back. But the 10-year vet, who hasn't had a 20-carry game in five seasons, is being pushed to the margins by BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Let him go.
