Lance Wilhelm
GIG HARBOR, WASH. > Tennis
Lance, a senior at Peninsula High, is undefeated in regular-season matches; he has a high school career record of 75--7 through mid-November. In October he was named the South Puget Sound League player of the year. He will attend the Air Force Academy next fall.

Florence Schelling
OBERENGSTRINGEN, SWITZERLAND > Hockey
Schelling, a freshman goalie at Northeastern, is 4-1-1, with 185 saves and a .964 save percentage, tops in the nation. She was the Swiss national-team goalie for five seasons and started for the team in the 2006 Olympics; she was twice named MVP of the team, and she was the 2007 Swiss Woman of the Year.

GROSSE POINTE, MICH. > Speedskating
Andrew, a homeschooled freshman, had personal bests in all seven of his short- and long-track races at the American Cup, and he qualified for the U.S. Junior Sprint Championships in December. He has set five national and international records this year.

HONOLULU > Surfing
Monahan, a junior accounting major at Brigham Young, won the 2008 ASP women's world longboard championship in Biarritz, France, in July, becoming the first Hawaiian female world longboard champion; the next month she placed first in the Roxy Jam Honolulu competition.

Justin Williams
McDONOUGH, GA. > Football
Justin, a senior quarterback and defensive back at Eagle's Landing High, rushed 10 times for 106 yards and a touchdown, and completed 10 of 14 passes for 244 yards and three TDs in a 35--21 win over Spalding, ending the team's 16-game losing streak. On defense he returned four interceptions for 162 yards.

Marcela Gurgel
FORTALEZA, BRAZIL > Volleyball
Gurgel, a junior outside hitter at South Florida, had 11 digs and a match-high 18 kills in a victory over Georgetown for her 12th double double of the year; she was named Big East player of the week for the third time. A two-time first-team All--Big East selection, she has 63 aces, which ranks fifth in Division I.
