Seth Davis's Three-Pointer

1 Kansas needs more perimeter punch. The Jayhawks' inability to generate outside offense beyond junior guard Sherron Collins (right) was the main reason they lost to Massachusetts, which came in with a 2--6 record.

2 Gonzaga's erratic free throw shooting bears watching. The Zags (7--1) are off to a strong start and hit 10 of 11 from the foul line in Sunday's 69--64 loss to Arizona, but they rank 161st nationally in free throw percentage at 68.3%.

3 The Mountain West is the best mid-major conference. Its top five teams have lost a mere eight combined games (against 34 wins), and the league is ranked sixth in the RPI—two spots ahead of the SEC.
