THIS WEEK'S MAIN EVENT

CROWNE PLAZA INVITATIONAL AT COLONIAL

Bird Watching

Besides a strong field that is scheduled to include 10of the top 20 players in the world, the Colonial will provide an interestingsubplot. CBS analyst Ian Baker-Finch, who won at Colonial in 1989, will enterthe tournament. "I turn 50 in a couple of years, and I want to see where Iam, whether it's worth putting extra effort into playing a bit," saysBaker-Finch. His last Tour appearance was at the 2001 Colonial, at which heshot 74--77 and missed the cut. If he plays better this time, Baker-Finch sayshe'll consider teeing it up at St. Andrews for the 2010 British Open, which hewon in 1991.

Drive for Dough?

Driving accuracy rules on the short, tight fairways ofColonial, which is why from 1999 through 2005 the winner ranked in the top fivein that category (chart). But the last three victors have used hot putters tonegate wayward tee shots, ranking second, tie for fourth and tie for third inputting, respectively. That bodes well for Luke Donald, who ranks first inputting on Tour this year.
