The Penguins were more than happy to smile for a photo with the Stanley Cup after beating the Red Wings 2--1 in Game 7 of the finals last Friday in Detroit (page 52). Sidney Crosby (C on jersey, right of trophy) became, at 21, the youngest team captain to win an NHL championship.

Garden Variety Combo

Miguel Cotto followed an overhand right with a left uppercut early in his 12-round welterweight title bout with Joshua Clottey last Saturday at Madison Square Garden. Cotto won the fight by a split decision despite suffering a gash over his left eyebrow from an accidental head butt in the third round and bleeding profusely for the rest of the fight (page 34).

Hound For Glory

The greyhound Varvatos sped to victory in the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Collar race on June 7 in Auckland, New Zealand. The even-money favorite won the 779-meter race by almost 10 lengths in a track-record 46.15 seconds.

Battle Fatigue

Magic center Dwight Howard bent over to catch his breath during Game 5 of the NBA Finals, which the Lakers won 99--86 on Sunday night in Orlando, clinching their 15th championship (page 36). Howard had 11 points and 10 rebounds, well below his playoff averages of 20.3 points and 15.3 boards.
