Emily Harris

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. > Badminton

Emily, a senior at Desert Mountain High, took the state Class 5A singles title for the second year in a row with an 11--1, 11--0 victory in the championship match. In the last two years she had a record of 65--0 and never lost a game. Emily also won the state 5A-II singles title in tennis as a freshman, helping the Wolves to the 2007 team championship.

Terrell Hudgins

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. > Football

Hudgins, a senior wideout at Elon, broke Jerry Rice's NCAA Division I-AA record with his 27th 100-yard receiving game when he gained 144 yards in a 27--7 win over Samford. He also holds the I-AA records for career receptions (383) and career receiving yards (5,083). Hudgins's current averages of 10.1 catches and 132.3 receiving yards lead the division.

Kyla Ross

ALISO VIEJO, CALIF. > Gymnastics

Kyla, a seventh-grader at Aliso Viejo Middle School, won the all-around competition (57.400) and the uneven bars and balance beam events at the Junior Pan American Gymnastics Championships in Aracaju, Brazil. She also came in second in the floor exercise and led the junior U.S. women past Canada for the team title.

Eric Fitzpatrick

BOISE, IDAHO > Cross-country

Eric, a senior at Boise High, won the state Class 5A cross-country meet (16:01.86) for the third year in a row and led the Braves to the team title. He also won the 3,200-meter race at the state 5A track and field meet in 2008, the 1,600 at the '08 and '09 meets, and ran the second leg of the winning 4...800 relay team at the state meet in '09.

Maria Gonzalez

RAPID CITY, S.D. > Soccer

Maria, a senior striker at St. Thomas More High, netted the winning penalty kick to give the Cavaliers a 4--3 overtime victory over Harrisburg in the state Class A title match. She scored 31 goals in 2009 to earn all-state honors and led her team to its third consecutive undefeated season (15--0) and state championship. Maria finished her career with 104 goals.

C.J. and Chun Ji Kim

CHANDLER, ARIZ. > Golf

C.J. and Chun Ji, seniors at Hamilton High, helped the Huskies win a fifth straight Class 5A-I state tournament. C.J. took the individual title for the second straight year, winning by one stroke (one under par). Chun Ji finished 12th, eight shots back. Both will play for the University of Denver.
