Tate, a freshman at Mississippi State, won the 400 meters by nearly four seconds (44.86) at the Alabama Relays, setting a meet and school freshman record, and ran the anchor leg of the winning 4 √ó 400 relay team (3:07.49). Two weeks earlier he ran the third leg for the gold-medal-winning 4 √ó 400 U.S. team (3:03.40) at the World Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar.
CONKLIN, N.Y. > Softball
Wiggins, a junior infielder at Fordham, was 13 for 16 with 20 RBIs during doubleheader victories over St. Peter's and Dayton. In a 21--1 win over St. Peter's she tied the single-game school record for hits (five) and broke the record for RBIs (nine). Wiggins also set Rams marks for home runs (three) and total bases (12) in an 11--0 defeat of Dayton.

HONOLULU > Volleyball
Taylor, a senior outside hitter at the Punahou School, was named MVP of the Best of the West invitational in Poway, Calif., after leading his team to a 7--0 record, including four wins on the final day in which he had 29 kills, 13 aces, 22 digs and eight blocks. A two-time all-state player, Taylor is a member of the men's junior national team.

EL DORADO HILLS, CALIF. > Basketball
Sara, a senior guard at Oak Ridge High, led all scorers with 26 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Trojans upset four-time defending champion Long Beach Poly 55--42 in the Division I state title game. This season Sara led the Trojans to a 32--3 record, with team-high averages in points (22.3), rebounds (9.9) and steals (3.7). She has signed with Stanford.
ELKINS PARK, PA. > Swimming
Pollen, a sophomore at Swarthmore, won the 50-meter freestyle (29.16) and took second in the 100 free (1:01.42) racing against other above-the-knee amputees at the U.S. Paralympics Spring Swimming Nationals. Competing for the Garnet at the Centennial Conference championships, he broke the U.S. Paralympic record in the 100-yard free (54.80) in the same division.
NEW YORK CITY > Hockey
Iwachiw, a senior goalie at Trinity College, received the Laura Hurd Award, given to the nation's top Division III player, after leading the Bantams to their first NCAA tournament. She led D-III in save percentage (.952), set single-season school records for games (25) and minutes (1,577), and established school career marks for shutouts (18) and wins (48).
