A new Adams Speedline driver manipulates airflow to reduce drag and increase swing speed
Increased swing speed leads to increased distance. In their quest for more yardage, Adams engineers wondered how they could help a golfer swing the same club faster. The answer was to make the clubhead more aerodynamic. To achieve that, they designed a series of slots across the top of the head that reduce the area of low pressure behind the club, which creates drag.
DRIVER WITHOUT VELOCITY SLOT TECHNOLOGY
On a standard driver the surface airflow breaks away right after the apex of the curve, creating the large area of low pressure shown in dark blue.
DRIVER WITH VELOCITY SLOT TECHNOLOGY
Similar to dimples on a ball, the slots disrupt the surface air, creating turbulence that allows the air to hug the clubhead longer.
Air breaks away farther back on the head, resulting in a smaller area of low pressure that, Adams says, makes the head 35% more aerodynamic.
