Major First

April 10, 2011

Move over, Butler and VCU. There's another amazing underdog story: Stacy Lewis, a 26-year-old Arkansas alum who on Sunday won the Kraft Nabisco Championship, golf's opening major of the year, for her first LPGA victory. Lewis not only won, but also chased down the best. She outplayed the world No. 1, Taiwan's Yani Tseng, the defending champion and a three-time major champion, who looked unstoppable during a 66 last Saturday that gave her a two-shot lead. Lewis continued a tournament tradition by leaping into a pond by the 18th green, with her parents, younger sister and caddie. "It was a lot colder than I thought it was going to be," said Lewis. As cold as her comeback victory was shocking.
