LSU may beat No. 3 Oregon on Saturday, but the bar fight that led to quarterback Jordan Jefferson's arrest for second-degree battery doesn't bode well for the Tigers. Jefferson was supposed to be one of LSU's leaders but is now suspended indefinitely. His status figures to be an ongoing distraction....Cal quarterback Zach Maynard, who threw for 2,694 yards and ran for 300 more for Buffalo in '09, will be the first dual-threat QB to run Bears coach Jeff Tedford's offense. Tedford, who will take over play-calling duties this season for the first time since 2007, has installed a spread-option package to take advantage of Maynard's skills....Purdue can't catch a break. Last year knee injuries sidelined its top running back, receiver and quarterback for all or most of the season. This year Purdue is already down to its third-string QB after returning starter Rob Henry tore his right ACL last week.
