NOT: ORANGE CRUSHED

Texas was burnt 17--13 by K-State last Saturday for a second straight loss; Syracuse hoops has serious off-court issues; and the NFL forced Bears WR Earl Bennett to hang up his tangerine-hued cleats, for which he's been fined $15,000.

HOT: SILVER STARS

The Cowboys scored 14 fourth-quarter points and survived the Skins in OT for a third straight win, moving them atop the NFC East. Not to be outdone: The AFC West--leading Raiders staved off the hapless Vikes 27--21.

NOT: BLUES WITHOUT CLUES

The Bills were maimed by mere Miami; the Giants fell to Philly; Columbus has the NHL's worst record and ranks 23rd or worse in every major stat; and in official Blues news, St. Louis's Chris Stewart was suspended three games for an illegal hit.

HOT: GREEN DAYS

Who said it was O.K. to dismiss Robert Griffin III from the Heisman race? RG3 had a school-record 551 total yards as Baylor upset No. 5 Oklahoma last Saturday to further muck up the BCS. And in other greenery, a certain NFL Bay team is 10--0.

NOT: FOOL'S GOLD

Minnesota didn't hire Jerry Kill for this. Losers of seven of their last eight, the not-so-Golden Gophers (2--9) conclude their third straight sub-.500 season on Saturday—thanks largely to their 102nd-ranked D. Basketball, anyone?
