NOT: PSU: STILL #UNOCCUPIED

This is an article from the Jan. 9, 2012 issue

Who'll follow Joe Pa at Penn State? Some dozen names have come up—but no hire. Jon Gruden? Tony Dungy? No-pa. And last week Boise State's Chris Petersen and Titans coach (and PSU alum) Mike Munchak both denied any interest.

HOT: ON-A-TEAR BEARS

Baylor (13--0) is off to its best start, thanks to a front line of Quincy Acy (below), who's averaging 12.5 ppg, Quincy Miller (10.9) and Perry Jones III (13.4). The Bears lead the Big 12 in boards (512), blocks (89) and three-point percentage (41.5).

NOT: BROWN AND OUT

Yes, the Browns (4--12, six straight L's) play in the NFL's toughest division, but enough's enough. Sunday concluded their 12th losing season in the last 14. Even worse: the way the team fumbled Colt McCoy's Dec. 8 concussion.

HOT: ROLLING THUNDER

Aside from that spat with teammate Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant is killing it. Consider: In each of OKC's first four games (all wins) KD had 30 or more points and shot over 50%—the first to do so since Marques Johnson in 1978--79.

NOT: WILD GONE MILD

Less than a month ago, Dany Heatley and Minnesota had won seven straight and 20 of 30 overall. Now the team is 21-13-6 and fifth in the West. The problem? Duh, scoring. The Wild's 2.23 goals per game ranks 29th in the NHL.
