NOT: GOLD HARD FACTS

Moneyball's Oscar snubs: no surprise. But cutting off the Best Doc winners behind Undefeated before they got to thank any of the high school football players in the movie was, to borrow from foul-mouthed director TJ Martin, "f------ amazing."

HOT: WHAT SHOCKERS

Save for a triple-OT loss on Jan. 28, Wichita State, ranked 15th and led by senior Garrett Stutz (14.1 ppg), has been perfect in 2012. Last Saturday the Shockers closed out their first MVC title since 2006 with an 81--58 win over Drake.

NOT: ISLAND OF MISFIT TEAMS

Tough times in the Ocean State. In hoops, Brown, Bryant, Providence and Rhode Island (below) each sit within one game of last place in their leagues. And Oscar nom Viola Davis, who was upset by Meryl Streep? Yup, a Rhode Islander.

HOT: NO WOES FOR ROSE

Reigning MVP Derrick Rose drew praise last week from LeBron ("he can do everything at the point guard position"), scored 14 points in 18 minutes at the All-Star Game and signed a new 14-year, $250 million endorsement deal with Adidas.

NOT: NOW, LET'S LAMENT LAMARS

New Mav Lamar Odom is averaging 7.7 ppg—barely half his career average. Meanwhile, at Lamar U, coach Pat Knight took a page from his dad and ripped the Cardinals (then 17--11), calling his seniors "the worst group I've ever been associated with."
