HOT: POCONO JOE

Joey Logano, 22, set Pocono's speed record at 179.598 mph to take the pole (his first in 2012) and then led 48 of 160 laps to win his second Sprint Cup race. Criticized for not living up to the hype he got upon joining Joe Gibbs's team at age 15, Logano said after the race, "I hope [this] shuts them all up."

NOT: LEPRE-CONNED

The luck of the Irish? It's a sham. The Celtics got stomped by the Heat in Game 7; Dullahan finished a sad seventh at Belmont; and Ireland, playing in its first major soccer tournament in 10 years, was crushed 3--1 by Croatia in Euro '12, including a goal off the noggin of GK Shay Given (below).

HOT: MELK DELIVERY

The Giants (34--27) have kept the Dodgers (39--22) in sight thanks mostly to Melky Cabrera. Traded from K.C. in the off-season, the leftfielder leads the NL in hits (87) and batting (.364, 89 points above his career average). Even former teammate A-Rod calls Cabrera "an MVP the last two years."

NOT: FRIARS TUCKERED?

The Padres (20--41) have lost 15 of 19, carry an NL-worst minus-70 run differential and have clocked just 34 HRs. (The Yankees have 92.) Worst of all, they're hitting just .192 with runners in scoring position, a stat that manager Bud Black acknowledges as "a problem for us."

HOT: REDS MENACE

If Joey Votto's MLB-leading walks (48), doubles (26), OBP (.476) and OPS (1.107) aren't proof enough that he's among the game's best hitters, consider this: Through 203 at bats the Reds' 1B was hitting .266 with two strikes (MLB average: .176) and has yet to pop up to the infield.
