Bear Trap With a showdown against Texas looming, was No. 1 Kansas State looking past Baylor last Saturday? Sure seemed to be. Cornerback Joe Williams (22) led the celebration after the Bears—who entered the game with the nation's worst defense—stuffed Wildcats quarterback Collin Klein on fourth down at the goal line in the fourth quarter. Baylor's 52--24 upset, which most likely killed Klein's Heisman hopes, further scrambled the BCS picture (page 26).

This One Really Ertz Second-ranked Oregon's BCS hopes took a painful hit last Saturday in a 17--14 loss to Stanford. The Cardinal tied the game with 1:35 left in the fourth quarter when tight end Zach Ertz (left) barely got his right shoulder down in bounds on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Kevin Hogan. Stanford's Jordan Williamson then won the game in overtime with a 37-yard field goal after Oregon's Alejandro Maldonado missed his 41-yard attempt.

Gnarled Barkley The bad news for Matt Barkley is that this hit from UCLA's Cassius Marsh wasn't even the worst part of his evening last Saturday. The USC quarterback, who returned to school when he could have been the top pick in last summer's NFL draft, later had to leave the game when he suffered a separated shoulder on a fourth-quarter sack. The Bruins beat the Trojans 38--28, dropping USC's record to 7--4 (page 28).
