FOR NOV. 25, 2013

Chicago Hope

In the summer of 2010 every employee at Wendell Phillips Academy was fired. The school, located on Chicago's South Side, was a disaster; the football program was in shambles. Now three years after embarking on a schoolwide turnaround, Phillips has gone from a failing school to one of the city's best, and it boasts one of the Chicago Public School system's finest football teams. In this season's third installment of the SI video series, Underdogs, SI.com visits Phillips and finds an institution and a football program reborn. Go to SI.com/underdogs for the story of Phillips and other schools facing adversity.
