Shakur, a junior at Bethel High (Hampton, Va.), won a 2--1 decision over Antonio Vargas of Kissimmee, Fla., for the youth flyweight title at the Junior and Youth Open in Reno. In September, Shakur won the light bantamweight junior world title and was named the junior male boxer of the year by the AIBA.
Allison Jacks | Lumberton, Texas | Basketball
Allison, a senior point guard at Lumberton High, made her 420th career three-pointer in a 66--35 win over Orangefield High to break the state record. She has twice sunk 11 threes in a game. At week's end Allison had run her total to 476, putting her 24 shy of the national high school mark.
Maliek Byndloss | Cape Coral, Fla. | BMX Racng
Byndloss, a freshman at Florida Gulf Coast, won the 17- and 18-year-old expert title at USA BMX Grand Nationals in Tulsa, beating a field of 105. With 690 points he lifted his season total to 2,334, clinching the No. 1 amateur ranking. Last May, Byndloss won the juniors title at the USA Cycling Elite Nationals.
Maria Sanchez | American Falls, Idaho | Soccer
Maria, a senior forward at American Falls, had 68 goals in 17 matches this season—including 13 straight hat tricks—to finish with the most goals for a boy or girl in state history (178). She repeated as Idaho State Journal's player of the year. Maria is verbally committed to play at Idaho State.
Kevin Cordes | Naperville, Ill. | Swimming
Cordes, a junior at Arizona, set national marks in the 100- (56.88) and the 200-meter breaststroke (2:02.38) at the Duel in the Pool in Glasgow, Scotland, then swam the breast in a world-record-breaking 200 mixed medley relay (1:37.17) as the U.S. beat Europe. Cordes was the NCAA swimmer of the year in 2013.
Rheagan Courville | Baton Rouge | Gymnastics
Courville, a junior at LSU, won her 14th career all-around title to help set the school record for points in a season opener (197.200) in a victory over Centenary. She won the floor exercise (9.950) and tied for first on beam (9.925). Courville was the 2013 NCAA vault champ and all-around runner-up.
