A rival scout sizes up the RAYS
They'll score more runs than in the past, and if their third, fourth and fifth starters step up, they can hold off the Red Sox.... DAVID PRICE looks healthier. He's been throwing 93--94 to both sides of the plate, using his slider and changeup more.... ALEX COBB is turning into Greg Maddux. He's a savvy guy who toys with hitters—he can make an aggressive lineup look stupid. He has such a feel for his changeup and for varying his pitching pattern.... MATT MOORE is not going to throw 98 at you for five or six innings, so he's gotta learn to locate. But his command of his breaking ball is better than it was a year ago.... Fifth starter is their biggest weakness. I don't think JAKE ODORIZZI is ready. He's trying to be too careful, and his stuff doesn't show me a lot of life. If they can hold water in that spot until JEREMY HELLICKSON gets back, they could be all right.... Signing RYAN HANIGAN was their best move of the winter. He's a good receiver and a tough out. JOSE MOLINA knows how to call a game and inside the strike zone he handles pitches very well, but he lacks range. With a pitcher on the wild side he doesn't move well laterally.... WIL MYERS will be improved this year. He looks like he's identifying breaking balls a bit better. He'll have 25-plus homers.... BEN ZOBRIST can go 0 for 3, and all of a sudden if there are runners on base, he'll find a way to get a base hit. It's uncanny.... DESMOND JENNINGS is always going to be a question mark. When pitchers throw a lot of breaking stuff at him, it slows his bat down. And he doesn't go deep in the count and have a quality at bat.
