FOR JUNE 30, 2014

Oh, the fond memories evoked from seeing the Strat-O-Matic font in the headline of the story about Houston (Astro-Matic Baseball). Won't be long until George Springer is rolling a lot of 1--7 home runs.

Martin Zaehringer, Ventura, Calif.

What the Astros are doing has been done for years in a number of cities all across the U.S.: It's called playing Double A and Triple A ball. The real crime is that the Astros are charging MLB prices for a minor league product.

Steve Douglas

Louisville

Thank you for putting the Astros on the cover. As a long-suffering Royals fan, it brought back memories of your March 2011 story on the next great team, which you said will win the World Series in 2015. Congratulations, Astros fans! You have become the victim of a nasty four-letter word: hope.

Jeff Frost, Gilbertville, Iowa

I was disappointed that the photo of Michelle Wie taking a mighty swing during her recent U.S. Women's Open victory was not on the cover. Wie had a huge breakthrough, and yet you chose the Astros. SI still refuses to give professional female athletes their due.

John Borland, Willington, Conn.

LEADING OFF

Your At the World Cup opened my eyes to just how much people in Brazil and in many other countries care about soccer. Sports can make us one.

Jacob Flatley

Wheeling, W.Va.

Though the article on Darren Sharper was riveting (The Case Against Darren Sharper), I take offense to this line: "If [he] committed these sexual assaults, he did it without threatening anyone or acting with aggression." Are you implying that what he allegedly did isn't as bad since the women were passed out?

Kim Porteous

Mill Valley, Calif.

POINT AFTER

Steve Rushin might have understated the feat of 75-year-old ambi-golfer Jim Kaat: By shooting 153 as a "one-man twosome," he very nearly shot his age—twice.

Tim Bishop

Pensacola, Fla.
