FOR JULY 28, 2014

POINT / COUNTERPOINT

Which team is now the best in the NBA's Eastern Conference?

[Ovie Mughelli] LeBron James is the most dynamic player in the NBA, so the Cavaliers are now the favorites.

[Tyler Jacobs] With the additions of Pau Gasol and Nikola Mirotic, I'm going with the Bulls.

[Ovie Mughelli] James, Kyrie Irving and Andrew Wiggins are the new Big Three—if Wiggins isn't traded.

[Tyler Jacobs] Chicago has firepower too: Derrick Rose is back, Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson have matured, and it's still got Joakim Noah.

[Ovie Mughelli] All of them combined might equal one King James.

[Tyler Jacobs] If Rose is 90%, he's one of the best players in the league. He could take over the East.

[Ovie Mughelli] Rose is too injury-prone to make a long-term impact. And don't even try to make a dehydration joke.

[Tyler Jacobs] I'll just sit over here sipping my sports drink, enjoying the air-conditioning.

From the SI Vault Dec. 6, 2010
