This is an article from the Dec. 29, 2014 issue
I smiled when I saw that you selected Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews as your NHL player of the year. His athletic skills and dedication to making both himself and his teammates better made this the obvious choice.

I was not surprised that Madison Bumgarner was named Sportsman of the Year. However, I was shocked to see that in a magazine with 160 pages, many of which highlighted the pictures of the year, moments of the year and ordinary heroes of the year, there was not a single mention of Mount St. Joseph freshman forward Lauren Hill and her battle with inoperable brain cancer. Clearly she is the most courageous athlete of the year.

What a pathetic picture of the U.S. Ryder Cup team (LEADING OFF). While I'm sure they were disappointed because they didn't win, they could have at least shown a little class by smiling in the photo as they represented their country.
Brian D. Cochrane, Brantford, Ont.
Thank you for the great article and Sportsman of the Year selection for our Giants hero, Madison Bumgarner. As your cover clearly shows, he is OUT STANDING in his field!
Greg Bishop's excellent piece on Tom Brady laid out in detail the type of attitude and commitment it takes to not only have a great year but also a great career. Would it be possible for you to send a copy to Johnny Manziel?
The 2014 game of the year was easily the Royals vs. the A's in the American League wild card. Not only was it Kansas City's first playoff game in almost 30 years, but it was also the start of the Royals' unbelievable run to the World Series.
