FOR DEC. 29, 2014
With so many negative stories surrounding the NFL this season, it was great to read your piece on Saints running back Mark Ingram II. Not only did it highlight his efforts to help children in need, but it was also an inspiring story on how not to let the sins of the father become those of the son.
Tom Czarniak, Rochester, N.Y.
In your picture of the most searched meme of 2014 (LEADING OFF), you incorrectly state that Tim Howard had 16 saves in the U.S.'s loss to Belgium in the World Cup. On July 5, FIFA revised his saves total to credit him with 15.

While I was impressed by Dr. Marcus Elliott's success in helping athletes avoid injury (Want To Avoid Injury?), I'm still struck by the seemingly dismal progress that has been made in preventing ACL injuries. I can't believe there have been so few advancements in exercises, therapies or drugs to strengthen this tendon and make it more durable.

In reading the obituary for Olympian Alice Coachman, I was sad to learn that she was shunned by her hometown of Albany, Ga., because of her race. Hopefully, after all this time, the town is now proud of her and is ashamed of its past.
James E. Killett
There was an error in your farewell tribute to former NBA point guard Red Klotz. He was born on Oct. 21, 1920, so that would have made him 93 at the time of his death, not 81.
I can't believe you didn't mention Topps executive and father of the modern baseball trading card Sy Berger, who died on Dec. 14 at age 91.
