FOR MARCH 20, 2017

Michael Rosenberg captured beautifully how beloved Joe Louis Arena is (All Wings Must Pass). In a time when Detroit struggled, it was a symbol of hope, a place where anyone of any background could come and feel as one. To this day, I get shivers from the way the whole arena sings "Don't Stop Believin'."

Jamesohn Bader, Holland, Mich.

Luke Winn's article on Northwestern basketball (First Dance) brought back memories from my days at Evanston High in the early 1950s. I recall going to the high school games on Friday nights, then seeing Northwestern play on Saturdays. The Friday-night crowds were larger. How things have changed.

Bob Martin, Clarendon Hills, Ill.

How in the world can a story, nearly five months old, still be so engrossing? Somehow Tom Verducci managed to find a way.

George Bertram, Campbellsville, Ky.

COVER

I counted only 10 women on the March Madness cover. How disappointing, given that this season UConn achieved a record winning streak and Washington's Kelsey Plum set the NCAA scoring mark.

INBOX

Every time I see a letter urging your magazine to "stick to sports," I make a donation to the ACLU or Planned Parenthood. Sports is connected to everything, including politics, and to not touch on the subject would be irresponsible.

SCORECARD

I am tired of actors, musicians, athletes and writers who think that their fans are concerned with their political views. We are not. I haven't subscribed to SI for more than 40 years to read about reliever Sean Doolittle's thoughts on U.S. immigration policy.
