After the basketball and volleyball seasons ended, and before her senior year at Covenant Day finished, Sarah Billiard (above) had a few months to kill. So why not try the high jump? The Matthews, N.C., native, who made FACES IN THE CROWD in January after scoring her 1,500th basketball point, jumped five feet in her first competition. The next meet, she leaped 5'4". In May, she won the CISAA conference title and one week later jumped 5'6" to win the NCISAA 3A state championship. Billiard, who was named all-state three times in volleyball and twice in basketball, and earned a volleyball scholarship to Virginia, has no regrets. But she does still wonder. "I would have loved to see where track could have gone," she says.
