Baldur's Gate 3: who is the Guardian?
you’ve inevitably spent an hour changing your appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3’s character creator, you may be surprised to find that you have to design another character immediately after. You’re not told much about who this character is, other than them being your “Guardian”, and in the game’s opening hours, they’re nowhere to be found.
We’ll let you in on who the Guardian is and where you can find them in the story.
What does a Guardian do? – BG3
If you want the short, spoiler-free answer, then just continue the story and you’ll eventually encounter them after you’ve taken a certain amount of long rests at your camp – you don’t need to go out of your way to find them as they’re an unmissable part of the game’s story.
If you want the spoiler details, then they start here.
When you first encounter the Guardian it will be in your dream. In some abstract land, you’ll be in the midst of a battle as they hastily try to explain your situation. Contrary to what you’ve been seeking up until this point, your Guardian insists that you must embrace the power the parasite is giving you and that you aren’t transforming into a Mind Flayer thanks to their intervention.
They’re irritatingly evasive with questions, but as you continue to encounter them in your dreams, they will continue to encourage the growth of your Illithid powers and eventually point you in the direction of your main objective.
Your companions claim to see similar Guardians in their dreams too, and if you talk to them after having a dream, you can discuss your opinions on the parasite and your newfound power.
Guardian voice 1 or 2? – BG3
As you have control over the creation of this important character, it's easy to sweat the small stuff, like the character's voice. There are two options for the character's voice, one male-coded, one female-coded, but neither is locked to a specific body type, meaning you can choose whichever one you feel more comfortable with.
They are potentially a romanceable character too - they are even happy if you have multiple romances in BG3 - so keep that in mind when creating them.
