Baldur's Gate 3: stone disc puzzle solution
Contents
No matter what direction you take on your adventure, it likely won’t take long for you to head to the Goblin stronghold. Whether you’re there to look for a cure, rescue a druid, or find any secrets within, there’s one locked door in particular that should draw your interest. Go in there and you’ll have to pass a series of checks and complete a curious puzzle.
We’ll show you how to solve the stone dial puzzle so you can progress the “Find the Nightsong” quest. This quest goes deeper than you might think, so make sure you've checked out our guides for how to craft potions in Baldur's Gate 3 and how to change your class in Baldur's Gate 3, so you can be fully prepared for what's ahead.
How to reach the stone disc puzzle – BG3
To the west of the throne, up some stairs is the Goblin leader’s room. There you’ll find a big locked door. It’s a crime to open it, but as long as you pick your moment well, you should be able to get in.
Once you do, head around and you’ll find a giant troll guarding what is presumably the leader’s bedroom. They’ll immediately tell you to get lost, and if you want to get past you’ll either need to be very sneaky, win a tough battle, or pass some tricky skill checks.
Whatever your method, you can then continue around in a big room with the four stone dials on the floor.

First of all, if you pass an investigation check upon entering the room, you’ll spot a lever that lets you skip the puzzle altogether, but if you aren’t that lucky, you’ll have to do it the proper way.
Four stone circles overlap in the middle, with holes in the “corners”, some filled in, some not. To solve the puzzle, organize the holes so that all of the ones in the bottom circle (the one closest to the entrance) are empty, and all of them in the top are full.
How to enter the Underdark – BG3
Completing this puzzle will open up the back wall of the room, where a large pit will take you down into the Underdark. This is a big underground area that you'll need to traverse later on in the story, plus there are plenty of goodies and oddities down here that are worth seeking out, like the Baldur's Gate 3 Arcane Tower.
When you first enter the area you'll be confronted with a Minotaur trying to break down the gate. Thankfully the fort defenses will kick in and save you, but it means that if you want to break out into the wider area, you'll have to run past them, so be careful and be quick.
