If there’s one thing Fortnite loves at the moment, it’s busywork. The latest update has added some new quests to the Oathbound questline, which serves as the story for Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1. The main feature is the Oathbound chests that spawn at various PoIs on the map this season. These white and gold chests have better loot than regular chests, including the Guardian Sheild.

This item can be thrown down in front of you to keep yourself safe from bullets for a short period of time, making it a brilliant defensive item. However, your goal is to destroy them this time, as one of the Oathbound quests asks you to damage Guardian Shields to collect micro chips. We’ll show you an easy method to complete this quest.

Fortnite Guardian Shields can be damaged quite easily with a few bullets

Doing it “the old-fashioned way” is a little bothersome. Not only does it require your opponents to have found a Guardian Shield and then deploy it when you attack them, but it requires putting yourself in harm’s way.

Instead, you need to get hunting for Guardian Sheilds yourself and pick them up from Oathbound chests. Your best bet is to look at any PoI in the autumnal regions of the map. The items can spawn in regular chests too, but they’re much rarer.

Once you have one, throw it down on the ground to make it appear. Now all you have to do is damage it. To do that, just walk around to the front of it then – and stop us if we’re going too fast – shoot at the big glowing thing repeatedly.

This will damage the shield and should drop the micro chips you need. Just rinse and repeat this process until you have everything you need.
