Spirits of Edo provides players with six eligible bachelors to choose from, including Tomonari Takamura, the silver-haired protective prince who escorts you to Edo from your mountain village. If you want to romance Tomonari, then you have to know how to say the right things so that he falls in love with you. Then of course there is the all-important Affection or Sorrow ending choice.

Tomonari’s route is one of the last routes you should try to complete. Getting the Affection ending for Tomonari requires that you have first unlocked Kuga’s Affection ending. Reaching Tomonari’s Affection ending will also unlock Ohtaro’s chapter. While you only need to finish Kuga’s route before starting Tomonari’s, we recommend you also complete Tojo, Kinji, and Yoichi’s routes before to avoid spoilers.

Your choices during the common route don’t affect who’s route you will end up on, so feel free to speak to people in any order you like. The only decision that matters in this first part is the choice to join Samurai Town. Once you do this, you will be locked into choosing between Tojo and Tomonari’s route.

Tomonari’s Route: Samurai Town choices

Here are all the choices that raise your affection with Tomonari in the Samurai Town route.

  • For a while I thought about whether I should point this out to Tomonari.
    • Point it out - Tojo
    • Don’t point it out - Tomonari
  • My mind blanked for a moment from the sudden question that was thrown my way…
    • Answer - Tomonari
    • I don’t know - Tojo
  • Suddenly put on the spot, I decided to…
    • Offer a condition - Tojo
    • Be honest and express embarrassment - Tomonari
  • The unexpected question came at me like an ambush. I froze for a second.
    • He’s… a friend - Tojo
    • We’re co-workers - No change
  • To his uncertain reply, I answered…
    • Why am I special? - Tomonari
    • Thank you - No change

If you want to play Tomonari’s route, you need to make every choice that raises his affection. You can choose either option if there isn’t one specifically for Tomonari, as long as Tomonari’s affection is higher than Tojo’s.

Tomonari’s Route options

Here are the choices you have to make in order to get the Affection or Sorrow ending for Tomonari.

  • (What should I do?)
    • Ask why - Affection/Sorrow ending
    • Change the subject - Alternate ending route
  • Based on what he’s just said, though… It really did seem like he worried about me.
    • Thank you - Tomonari
    • I’m fine – No change
  • Tomonari asked worried, after thinking silently to himself for a while.
    • Of course I don’t - Tomonari
    • I’m just worried about them - No change
  • He must be waiting for my response.
    • Run away - Tomonari
    • Don’t run away - No change
  • He seemed to be on the fence, so I said…
    • Yeah, I think so! - Tomonari
    • I’ll try not to mess this up - No change

The next few options will lead to the Affection and Sorrow endings. To achieve either ending, you must have suitably high affection with Tomonari in order to reach them instead of the Low Affection ending. Affection does not matter for the alternate endings. It is important to create a save here so that you can see all three endings.

Here are the choices for the two main route endings:

  • His tone of voice brought me back to when he had been a vessel, but his threads were a fiery red…
    • Agree with him - Alternate ending
    • I want to look into it anyway - Affection/Sorrow endings
  • (I’ve got to do something to stop this!)
    • Say something to stop it - Sorrow ending
    • Steal the sword - Affection ending

Tomonari Route – Alternate endings

Aside from the standard Affection and Sorrow endings, Tomonari has some alternate endings. The first alternate ending doesn’t offer any CGs, but this is how you reach it if you want to see the extra scene.

  • (What should I do?)
    • Ask why - Affection/Sorrow ending
    • Change the subject - Alternate ending
  • Based on what he’s just said, though… It really did seem like he worried about me.
    • Thank you - Tomonari (either choice is valid)
    • I’m fine - No change
  • Then Tomonari turned his honest crystal-clear eyes towards me.
    • Look away - Alternate ending
    • Stare back - Affection/Sorrow ending

The second alternate ending does contain a CG and so will likely want to see this path also. Here’s the options you need to make.

  • His tone of voice brought me back to when he had been a vessel, but his threads were a fiery red…
    • Agree with him - Alternate ending
    • I want to look into it anyway - Affection/Sorrow endings
  • I knew deep down that if I chose the wrong thing, I might not be able to come back from it.
    • Give up - Alternate ending
    • Don’t give up - Affection/Sorrow endings
