Genshin Impact Hu Tao voice actress instructs fans to shower before events
Popular voice actress and singer Rie Takahashi has recently posted an instruction manual for fans to follow when visiting live events and conventions. This checklist contains some regular advice like bringing a bag for your valuables, a powerbank to charge your phone, and having a water bottle on hand to stay hydrated.
An entire section, however, is dedicated to instructing people how to properly wash up before attending an event.
While the smelly nerd stereotype is not universally true when it comes to gamers and anime fans, anyone who’s ever visited a convention focused on these topics will be able to attest to the fact that many members of those communities do have a somewhat strained relationship with bodily hygiene. That can certainly diminish the experience of attending an event, which goes for fellow visitors and invited stars both.
Takahashi, who plays some very popular video game and anime characters such as Hu Tao in Genshin Impact, Emilia in Re: Zero, Mash Kyrielight in Fate: Grand Order, and Megumi in Konosuba, and is also a j-pop singer, illustrated her advice with some cute drawings. The instructions are given in a very polite and easily understandable manner, such as “Clean yourself thoroughly. Please don't bother those around you. You will sweat a lot so make sure you are clean.”
She also told fans to cut their fingernails, advising them on how to keep the space underneath clean, and to bring hand sanitizer and a face mask. All in all very sensible, especially in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Takahashi’s advice was well-received by the majority of her fans, who thanked her for making this checklist for them, though a few readers felt a bit attacked by her demands, perhaps being guilty of not having followed some of these tips in the past.
Being very experienced with handling her community, she remained friendly and reached out to those who commented, such as one user who said that they couldn’t shower due to an injury. She was empathetic to the case and advised them to use wet wipes and dry shampoo in lieu of perfume, since that smell might be too strong for some people as well, which the fan found very helpful.
