Nintendo doesn’t usually drop major news on a weekend, but when March 10 – Mar10 or Mario Day – falls on a Sunday, the company sometimes makes an exception. Today is one of those days, and next to confirming that a new Super Mario Bros. animated movie is in the works, we also got release dates for two upcoming Mario-adjacent games.

The first is Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, a remake of what’s widely considered to be the best game in the Paper Mario series. I personally disagree, but I won’t fight against the masses — it’s widely beloved and that’s good enough. The remake of the turn-based GameCube game was first announced last year, and now has a release date for the Nintendo Switch.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door will be released on the Nintendo Switch on May 25, 2024.

The other release date announcement was for Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, which is much less of a remake and much more of an enhanced port from the 3DS version of the game, which was called Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon in the US. Luigi’s Mansion 2 has had a bit of a facelift by the looks of it, but ultimately it’s still more or less going to be the same game that it was 10 years ago. It will, at least, keep the local and online multiplayer modes, although sadly Gooigi won’t be making an appearance.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD will be released on the Nintendo Switch on June 27, 2024.

Both games will retail for $59.99, both physically and digitally, and both are eligible for the Nintendo Switch Online Game Voucher program, letting you save a little bit of cash when buying together. Or you can bundle one up with Princess Peach: Showtime!, which is due to be released later this month.

The release date announcements come shortly after the Switch hit its seventh birthday, with the console entering its eighth year on the market. Everybody’s sitting on the edge of their seats waiting to see if – or rather when – Nintendo announces a Nintendo Switch successor, but so far the gaming giant has yet to say a single word.

Switch 2 reportedly delayed out of 2024
